For 75 years, the Texas Hospital Auxiliary has supported the Texas Multipurpose Health Service and aged care facility, Mingoola Place and those who utilise its services.
Founded on 31 July, 1949, the organisation is the longest serving hospital auxiliary in Queensland. They marked the milestone over the weekend with a garden party.
Texas Hospital Auxiliary Secretary, Sue Jerram says reaching this milestone is a true testament to the many volunteers who’ve contributed over the years.
“We’ve currently got around 25 members, some of those have been involved with the organisation for more than 20 years.
“The auxiliary was formed with the aim of providing amenities for patients and staff at the hospital and aged care facility, and over the years, we’ve gone from strength to strength.
“A big thank you must go to the community, without their ongoing support of our fundraising efforts, we wouldn’t be able to continue to support the Texas Multipurpose Health Service and Mingoola Place.
“Over the years we’ve raised funds for countless items, some of our most recent donations to the hospital include 10 aidcare chairs, medical lifters, humidifiers, a nurse call system, gym equipment and diversional therapy items,” said Ms Jerram.
Texas Multipurpose Health Service Director of Nursing, Carina Mayers said the support the auxiliary has provided over the years is astonishing.
“We as a Multipurpose Health Service, feel very lucky to have such an active auxiliary, especially one that has run continuously for 75 years.

“As a group, they have an incredible ability to unite our rural community to support the Multipurpose Health Service and aged care facility, through their fundraising events such as the annual cent sale, street carnival and catering events throughout the year.
“It’s fantastic to have been able to celebrate this incredible milestone with the auxiliary and the community,” Ms Mayer said.
