As temperatures plummet across the region, one local pool is providing a warm change of scenery for those deterred by the chill.

Darling Downs Health’s Aquatic Centre at the Baillie Henderson campus is set to 32° all year round.

Aquatic Centre Manager Micheal Wise said there are many benefits to this, especially for the elderly.

“Having the pool this warm is fantastic for people suffering with chronic pain, or even those with arthritis because it’s a chance for them to relax their muscles and joints,” Mr Wise said.

“We have a really diverse group of people who come and enjoy the facility here including disability clients, parents and babies, as well as swimmers who use the lap lanes.”

The 25-metre pool is open to the public and has been helping improve the general well-being of residents since it opened in 2019.

Since then, it’s grown in popularity across the community and services around 150 people every day.

Staff are now preparing to celebrate the Aquatic Centre’s 3rd Birthday, which will be a chance for the public to enjoy the facility for free.

Mr Wise is encouraging current members, and anyone interested in visiting the pool to attend.

“To mark this special occasion we’re having an open day on Friday, 8 July from 10am to 2pm, and would love to see as many people as possible,” he said.

“Come and check out what makes a 32° pool so incredible!”

Celebrations will also include a sausage sizzle for a gold coin donation, as well as membership pack prizes up for grabs.
