New Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service to be built by FK Gardner & Sons

The new $28.554 million Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service will be built by FK Gardner & Sons, who were awarded the contract by the State Government.

A totally new facility, the Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service will be a contemporary building that encompasses a wide range of healthcare services, including emergency, acute and aged care for the thriving community and surrounding districts of Millmerran.

Representing a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure, the new Multipurpose Health Service is a testament to Darling Downs Health’s ongoing commitment to providing quality care across a nearly 90,000 km2 area.

Darling Downs Health Chief Executive, Annette Scott PSM expressed her enthusiasm for the project to commence and congratulated FK Gardner & Sons on their successful tender.

“The awarding of a contract is a significant step in the construction process, it’s really a greenlight moment and now we will be full steam ahead to ensure this state-of-the-art facility is delivered on time,” Ms Scott said.

“The new Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service will be a beacon of modern healthcare in the region, improving access, functionality and the quality of care for residents in the immediate area.”

Acknowledging the significance of recent capital investments into Darling Downs Health, Board Chair Mike Horan AM said that the next five years of growth and upgrades to facilities and services will support the broader region for many decades.

“I’m confident that our strategic and service planning has identified the correct priority areas for us to direct capital funding to, such as the Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service,” Mr Horan said.

“We are on the cusp of several legacy projects commencing across our Health Service which have been diligently planned and worked on for years by Darling Downs Health leadership.”

The Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service will comprise of an eight-bed inpatient unit, five-bed residential aged care space, and acute and non-acute spaces.

Toowoomba Region Mayor, Councillor Geoff McDonald said the new hospital is one of many significant projects underway in the Millmerran area.

“This is a great outcome for our residents. There are a number of major projects taking place in the Millmerran area and this facility will ensure the needs of our growing community are taken care of for many years to come. The health sector is a significant contributor to our economy and the awarding of this contract will further contribute to our thriving community.”

The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025, subject to favourable weather and construction conditions.

The new Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service is part of the State Government’s $943.5 million Building Rural and Remote Health Program, which is dedicated to improving hospital and healthcare facilities in rural and remote communities.
