Darling Downs Health is excited to share the news that Diabetes Educator at Kingaroy Hospital, Belinda Densley, has been awarded Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) of the Year in Queensland.

Belinda’s win was announced at the prestigious 2023 Australasian Diabetes Congress and is a well-deserved accolade for the South Burnett nurse.

Credentialled Diabetes Educators work closely with individuals, forming a personalised approach to diabetes education, care and management.

“Every person that comes to see me is given warmth, encouragement, and a safe place to be open about their diabetes concerns,” Ms Densley said.

“I work alongside patients, providing guidance, support and most importantly encouragement that they can make changes to not only improve their diabetes, but also their lifestyle and mental being as well.”

Belinda began her nursing career twenty-three years ago; however, it was more recently her passion for working with people living with diabetes was discovered.

“I became a Credentialed Diabetes Educator in 2020, moved to Kingaroy, and began engaging with community clients from all walks of life,” Ms Densley said.

“I am honoured that people in my community felt that I held the values and knowledge to be nominated for the CDE of the Year for Queensland.”

“We are all so proud of Belinda winning this award. Belinda goes above and beyond to provide the necessary tools, knowledge, and encouragement to patients, enabling them to manage their condition effectively and live a fulfilling life,” Ms Binns said.

In addition to the honour itself, Belinda has been given $1000 in scholarship funds to further her professional development and continue to positively impact the lives of those living with diabetes in the South Burnett.
