BreastScreen Queensland is returning to Pittsworth and Millmerran during January and February, providing local women with easy access to this essential health check.

The mobile service bus will be at Centenary Park in Pittsworth from 13 to 17 January, before heading to Millmerran Hospital from 28 January to 5 February.

BreastScreen Medical Director Dr Heather Jeffery encourages local women to attend the free service while it is in their area.

“Our mobile service visits the area every two years, and we urge women aged 40+ to take advantage of this opportunity by booking a free breast screen.

“Regular two-yearly screening at BreastScreen Queensland means any breast changes can be picked up at an earlier stage when they’re easier to treat.

“We strive to make breast screening easy and accessible, with sites close to where people live and a range of appointment times,” Dr Jeffery said.

One in seven women in Australia will develop breast cancer at some stage in their life. A breast screen is the best way to find breast cancer in its earliest stages for better health outcomes.

“A breast screen is a special x-ray of the breast that can detect small abnormal changes, often before they can be seen or felt by a woman or her doctor,” Dr Jeffery said.

“Early detection can save your life, providing the best chance of effective treatment, increased survival, and improved quality of life.”

The free breast screening service is available to women aged 40 and above. For those between the ages of 50 and 74, it is strongly recommended to have a breast screen every two years, as 75 per cent of breast cancer diagnoses occur within this age range.

Appointments can be made by seeing your GP or phoning 13 20 50 or booking online via www.breastscreen.qld.gov.au. BreastScreen Toowoomba also operates a year-round service at 661 Ruthven Street at the Bernoth Centre, with weekday and early morning appointments (including some Saturdays) available and plenty of on-site parking.
