The BreastScreen Queensland mobile service bus has returned to Dalby Hospital, providing local women easy access to this essential health check until 24 April 2025.

BreastScreen Medical Director, Dr Heather Jeffery, is encouraging local women to attend the free service while it is in their area.

“Our mobile service has visited Dalby every two years since 1999, and it is one of our largest sites. However, only 53 per cent of eligible local women are participating in regular breast screening, so we urge women aged 40+ to take advantage of this opportunity and book their free breast screen,” Dr Jeffrey said.

“Regular two-yearly screening at BreastScreen Queensland means any breast changes can be picked up at an earlier stage when they’re easier to treat.”

One in seven women in Australia will develop breast cancer at some stage in their life. A breast screen is the best way to find breast cancer in its earliest stages for better health outcomes.

“A breast screen is a special x-ray of the breast that can detect small abnormal changes, often before they can be seen or felt by you or your doctor,” Dr Jeffery said.

“Early detection can save your life, providing the best chance of effective treatment, increased survival, and improved quality of life.”

The free breast screening service is available to women aged 40 and above.

For those between the ages of 50 and 74, it is strongly recommended to have a breast screen every two years, as 75 percent of breast cancer diagnoses occur within this age range.

Appointments can be made by phoning 13 20 50 or booking online at www.breastscreen.qld.gov.au, or you can speak with your GP or health worker.

BreastScreen Toowoomba also operates a year-round service at 661 Ruthven Street at the Bernoth Centre, with weekday and early morning appointments (including some Saturdays) available and plenty of on-site parking.
