Darling Downs Health has welcomed news from the State Government that John Holland has been awarded the tender to lead the design stage of the new Toowoomba Hospital.

Darling Downs Health Board Chair, Mike Horan AM said today’s announcement was an important milestone in the construction of the new hospital.

“The $1.3 billion hospital will be built on our Baillie Henderson campus.

“Our Executive will be working with the project team to ensure this facility is completed to a high standard and meets the need of the community, not just now but into the future.”

Chief Executive of Darling Downs Health, Annette Scott PSM said today’s announcement comes as the Baillie Henderson campus was rapidly evolving into a modern healthcare hub.

“Our Baillie Henderson campus is rapidly evolving into a modern healthcare hub for the Darling Downs,” Ms Scott said.

“Currently, we are delivering a $20 million early works package in preparation for construction to start on the new hospital next year. These works are crucial in ensuring the site is ready for major works.

“Works are also progressing on the new Toowoomba Day Surgery which we expect to be completed in the first quarter of 2024.

“We know that modern facilities are a consideration for medical staff when they are choosing an organisation to work for, and we are positioning ourselves to become a destination of choice for health service professionals with a pipeline of new infrastructure in Toowoomba, Tara, and Millmerran and of course the recently completed hospital in Kingaroy.

“This a once-in-a-generation project that we must get right, and I welcome today’s announcement and look forward to seeing this project progress.”

The new Toowoomba Hospital will be built at the Baillie Henderson site and is on schedule to be completed by the second half of 2027. The CBD site of the current Toowoomba Hospital in Pechey Street will be retained by the health service.
