Darling Downs Health has welcomed the news of $1.3 billion in capital funding in the 2022/23 State Government budget for the Toowoomba Hospital Redevelopment. In addition, the budget announcement has been confirmed for Tara Hospital as part of the 2022/23 capital spend.
Darling Downs Health Board Chair Mike Horan AM said last week’s announcement is a welcome investment in the future of health care for our region.
“This announcement will not only bring modern infrastructure, but it will also be an investment in our community by improving our capacity to respond effectively to increasing health care demand across the region,” Mr Horan said
“The past two years of the pandemic have been challenging for our health service, and this is exactly what we need to support progress towards increasingly efficient, sustainable, and contemporary models of care.
“Our focus will be to deliver these projects to a high standard and ensure the outcome is exactly what is needed in the community.”
Chief Executive of Darling Downs Health, Annette Scott, said the announcement will allow the Health Service to provide state of the art facilities to the community.
“We will work with our staff and communities to ensure the new infrastructure is fit-for-purpose and meets our needs now and into the future.
“This is a really exciting time for not only us as a Health Service, but the whole community. Our purpose as a Health Service is to provide care as close to home as possible and the announcement of $1.3 billion in funding last week, really is an investment in regional health care,” Ms Scott said
“While there are a few details to be confirmed, our infrastructure team has started to prepare for these projects and are currently working out the logistics of the various enabling works that need to be commenced. We’ll be keeping our staff and community informed as these activities progress and I’m looking forward to seeing these projects delivered.”
