Two tenders have been released for the design and construction of the Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service and Tara Hospital replacement facilities.
Executive Director Infrastructure Dr Paul Clayton said the call for tenders was distributed on QTenders during the month of April and will close on 23 May.
“Companies have an opportunity to respond to the request for tender online and they’ll be assessed promptly with construction to be completed in 2025, weather permitting,” Dr Clayton said.
The new facilities will improve the experience for patients, staff and the broader community. Dr Clayton said initial feedback from community consultation sessions in Millmerran and Tara have been positive.
“We were able to show the community the plans for the facilities and discuss with them the continuity of service during construction. It was important to reassure everyone that access and functionality will be maintained to existing hospital and health service buildings.
“The people in Millmerran and Tara are extremely engaged and it’s an exciting opportunity for a building contractor to work with a community that is looking forward to the finished product.”

Chief Executive of Darling Downs Health, Annette Scott PSM said that once complete, the new facilities will be well received by the community and Darling Downs Health staff working in the facilities.
“Some of these buildings have been around for over 50-years and during that time there has been an evolution in how care is provided to patients.
“We have a highly capable workforce and to be in a position to introduce modern and contemporary health facilities is critical in attracting additional staff to work and live in rural communities, as well as supporting our current staff to continue to deliver high quality clinical care.
“We’ll be keeping our staff and community informed as the projects progress.” Ms Scott said
The new Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service and new Tara hospital form part of the Queensland Government’s $1.038 billion Building Rural and Remote Health Program.
In 2022, Darling Downs Health also received funding for the new Toowoomba Hospital, which is expected to be completed in 2027.
