Palm trees in heavy wind and rain conditions

Darling Downs Health continues to monitor Tropical Cyclone Alfred and is prepared to respond to extreme weather events, including ensuring power is available to maintain critical services.

Any operational impacts from Tropical Cyclone Alfred that may disrupt the delivery of care will be communicated to the public on this page, via social media and local media outlets.

Emergency care

All our hospitals will remain open for emergency care, 24 hours a day.

If you need to come to hospital, please ensure you bring any regular medications with you.

In an emergency, you should call Triple Zero (000).

An alternative to attending an emergency department may be to connect online to the Virtual Emergency Care Service. This service has specialist clinicians available to treat a range of emergency conditions virtually. Operating hours will be extended to 24 hours from 8am Thursday 6 March until 10pm Tuesday 11 March 2025.

You can also contact 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84), 24 hours a day, if you need health advice.

Community centres and clinics

The following community-based services will be temporarily closed or changed on Thursday 6 March 2025 and Friday 7 March 2025:

  • School dental services in Toowoomba are closed in line with Education Queensland closures.

Scheduled appointments and surgeries

We are working to reschedule or move to telehealth some non-urgent surgery and outpatient appointments that were planned for Thursday 6 March and Friday 7 March.

We are contacting affected patients directly.

If your scheduled appointment is going ahead, but you are unable to make it due to the severe weather, don’t worry, we can reschedule it for you. Contact the number on your appointment information letter to let our team know. If you can’t find your appointment letter, contact the hospital main phone number.

Visiting hospital

Visitors are encouraged to prioritise their safety when considering visiting the hospital during extreme weather events.

We want everyone to remain safe, so please don’t travel when it is not safe to do so.

We strongly encourage you to check your route to our hospitals to make sure it is safe to travel both to and from the facility.

Useful contacts

For our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members:

In a life-threatening emergency, always call Triple Zero (000).
