Overview

Part of the more than $1 billion Building Rural and Remote Health Program, construction of the new Tara Hospital is underway.

The new development is funded by the Queensland Government’s Building Rural and Remote Health Program, which is dedicated to enhancing healthcare services in regional and remote communities.

The new hospital will be situated on the existing hospital campus and will provide a wider range of services including:

  • Emergency care
  • Palliative care
  • A 12-bed inpatient unit
  • Adult mental health
  • Clinical services
  • Outreach services

Hutchinson Builders will lead the construction, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.

Due to its age and increasing maintenance burden, the existing Tara Hospital will be demolished following the construction of the new facility.

There will be no disruptions to services at the existing hospital while work is underway.
